1959 Fender Precision Bass in Danbury NH
Share
A few weeks ago I found out about this bass, and I hit the road to travel to northern New Hampshire to buy this 1959 Precision Bass. As a New Hampshire vintage guitar buyer I was already on my way to buy a 1973 Precision Bass when the same seller asked me if I was interested in purchasing this 1959 P Bass as well. Needless to say I was very excited when I saw the pictures of this bass. I stopped at the last bank for 50 miles and got there 2 minutes before they closed!
I was happy to buy these two vintage Fender basses in New Hampshire. I am always a buyer for vintage Fender guitars made in the 1950’s, 1960’s, and 1970’s and I especially love precision basses from 1958 and 1959 with gold pickguards like this one. If you have one you would like to sell please contact me.
1959 Fender Precision Bass Modifications
I don’t know too much about this bass other than it was a studio bass for many years of its life, and saw quite a few modifications over the years. At one point it was routed for a second pickup and a 3 way switch. I have to imagine this would be a pretty cool setup, although it has been returned to its original pickup configuration with its original rewound pickup. The pots were replaced in the mid 60’s.
It had a very well done refret and the nut was replaced at the same time. This was very professional work, I wish I knew who did it so I could give them more business! The bridge was also replaced sometime in the late 60’s or early 70’s as indicated by the longer G saddle screw.
