1960 Gibson ES-330TD and 1964 Fender Jaguar in Oakfield, Maine
I have been in touch with the seller of this 1960 ES-330 and 1964 Jaguar up in Maine for over 6 months, and I was thrilled when we could reach a deal. Oakfield is just 18 miles away from the Canadian border, I drove up there from southern New Hampshire and I was glad I did! Even though I only had one picture of each guitar I made the 12 hour round trip. Nowhere is too far for the right vintage guitar. 1960 Gibson ES-330TD Buyer
The Gibson ES-330 was introduced in 1959. It is a fully hollow guitar, with two P90 pickups. This differentiates it from the 335, 345, and 355 which have a solid maple block in the center and humbucking pickups. All of the 3xx models are a joy to play, but I love these 330’s especially. In 1959 the necks had a more full profile. By mid/late 1960 the necks had slimmed down a bit, they slimmed even more in 1961 and these were known as the blade necks. This one has a mid 1960 medium/slim profile, which I find super comfortable to play.
I only had one picture of this guitar, so I was very happy to discover it was mostly original and issue free when I arrived. It is original apart from replaced truss rod cover screws, and an added strap button on the back (which was done to almost all of them). All electronics, pickups, finish, etc is original and it has no cracks or breaks. I have had the single pickup version of this model, but never the double pickup version, I'm excited to have the chance to have this one!
The case is not original, but I am not sure what it is from. It has the Gibson badge like I would expect, it was painted black at one point but the original brown fabric is visible underneath. It has a strange filler in the case above the headstock I have never seen before. I am thinking maybe it originally went to an EB-6 or similar? But I'm not sure. It’s a cool case either way, I love the look of old Gibson guitars in their old cases with pink lining.
1964 Fender Jaguar Buyer
The Fender Jaguar was first introduced in 1962 as the highest-end Fender model. Although these are not quite as popular today, they were meant to be fancy with lots of chrome hardware, the foam bridge mute, and a short scale for easy playability. Today, they are not as popular as the Stratocaster, Telecaster, or Jazzmaster, but they are still amazing instruments.
I also only had one picture of this guitar! When I inspected it in person, I found that it was 100% original except for a set of reproduction tuners. It features all original electronics, hardware, finish, and has its original no-logo black tolex case. It has an L-series serial number, which Fender used between 1963 and 1965. The original pots date to the 50th week of 1964, but after the pots were made, they had to be shipped off to Fender. This means the guitar was likely finally assembled and shipped out in 1965. These Pre-CBS Jaguars are always special to me since a 1965 Jaguar was my first real vintage guitar. I’m very happy to have this example.
